Regarding clay shoot on private property with friends?

Recommended Posts

It seems we are in danger of over-thinking this. Are people saying that I can go into my field and shoot at pigeons every day of the week but only shoot at clays 28 times a year? If I am causing a noise nuisance will it really matter what I am pointing my gun at? If I am not causing a noise nuisance, and not running a commercial enterprise, exactly what law can stop me shooting clays every day of the year if I wish? And if I invite my mates round and they decide that it is not fair that I pay for all the clays and decide to chip in towards the cost, how is that running a business? If I have a bring a bottle party I'm hardly running a wine bar, am I?

I would forget about the 28 day rule and worry more about piddling off your neighbours. If you get any complaints it will be easier to defend if you are being reasonable in terms of how often you shoot and demonstrate that you have thought about mitigating the noise. If you have access to some plant then digging out a few shooting positions & building the spoil up around the outside will make a hell of a difference to how far the sound carries.

Agreed on the first paragraph and I can carry out the advice in the second, including building some new shooting posistions. :good:

Where I used to live a mate in village has a summer evening clay shoot sessions for profit - he does every Tuesday night in summer for 28 days - now as the crow flies his ground is no more than a mile from my old house and if wind was from south- north or east it was hard to tell he was shooting - But if wind was from west it was as though he was in my back garden - If I was a non shooter and a busybody I would have complained.

As far as I know since 1982 no one has complained.
