Dave-G
I have been thinning out a newish permission that was until late last year buzzing with bunnies. After taking well over a hundred bunnies over the last four months they were getting lampshy and I decided to ease off the culling to preserve a few for repopulating. Ok, maybe I shouldn't have eased off but I became aware of a very noticeable reduction of them about a month ago. I spotted some dead ones laying on the ground the other side of a fence and have now noticed Mitsy for the first time in the area. I rather suspect the tenant maybe got someone to ferret them as a few weeks ago he referred to the fact that he still spots a few about, and he said it in a way that I felt he might do something about it. Also, can hunting dogs carry the disease or flea's? It is of course possible that he may have trapped mitsy rabbits elsewhere and brought them onto this site. ttab
I hope you was on about Myxomatosis this is what i found. Myxomatosis is spread by insects and fleas it is not contagious as such because it needs a flea to carry the disease from one rabbit to the other. Although humans and other animals can't catch myxomatosis they can still carry the flea.
apache
Yes it's spread by fleas. Doesn't have to be brought maliciously. Rabbit fleas can live for shot times on dogs and I would have thought ferrets. Assuming you are a responsible dog owner and treating regularly with an effective product for fleas it wont be an issue.
