Frenchieboy
Well, on Bank Holiday Monday the lads arrived as planned at about 10:00 ready for a good morning of fun and shooting at the quarry. Those lads that came were Paul Kemp (Chairman of our gun club) "Flying" Brian (A member of the gun club) Bruce (aka BPH off here and also a member of our gun club and Andrew (Peskyfoxes a PW member) and of course myself (FrenchieBoy) As planned mugs of tea and coffee along with bacon butties were served by Marlene while I sorted out a bit of paperwork for Andrew, and then the "banter" started, and carried on all through the rest of the morning. A quick word about safety was in order but the emphasis was put on enjoying the day, and it was up to the quarry. There was a good selection of rifles available from a .22LR up to a mighty .308 and Pauls .357 Magnum and plenty of ammunition to go with them so we set some targets out at varying ranges from 50 yards to 200 yards for zeroing along with some "fun targets" to let loose on. Everyone got the zeroing on their rifles checked pretty quickly and then the fun began. All told we got through well over 200 rounds of ammunition, mainly centrefire, but as has been said the emphasis was on enjoying our time together more than "serious shooting" without worrying about the expence of the ammunition, and of course encouraging Andrew (Peskyfoxes) to try and get used to all of the different rifles and calibres available - He certainly semed to enjoy himself! I had planned some clay shooting after a session with the rifles but when the time came I found that the spring from my clay trap had disappeared so that went out of the window - I have searched and searched but I can not find the darned spring so I am going to have to try to find a replacement. With that in mind we tried doing some clay shooting with a difference - We set some clays up on a safe backstop at just over 70 yards and tried hitting them with some 12g "slugs" I had made up for PSG shooting. It's actually surprising how hard it is to hit a 4" clay at 70 yards with a slug through the unrifled barrel of a shotgun just using a bead sight! OK, Some of you when you watch the video might well say that we were wasting ammunition but as has been said the emphasis was on enjoying ourselves. Things might at times look a bit chaotic but safety was observed at all times, and we were having fun, so much so that I didn't even think of doing any videoing till the morning was half way through. Here is a bit of the video I filmed.
BangBangNik
Looks like you had a good day Pete. And what a way to celebrate the queens jubilee by shooting stuff. She would have been proud.
Catweazle
You need a tripod Frenchie, that video makes my head ache. I'm going to buy some camera thread bolts soon, if you like I'll post you one, perhaps you could rig it onto your shooting sticks for field use.
