It's often said that the British love the underdog, but to be more accurate - the British love people who really try, whether it's the footballer working hard on the wing or the roadsweeper clearing the gutter. There is an ongoing narrative that the migrants arrive here in order to live their lives on benefits, it might be true, might not. I haven't seen any evidence either way. I think we'd be in a better position to accept migrants if we had some sort of assessment of abilities and placement in either training or work. I can't think of a better way to find genuine asylum seekers than to see who is prepared to work in order to stay.

Really ? You're surprised that embarrassing protestors aren't getting covered in the media ? Hundreds of thousands of people march through our capital city and it hardly gets a mention, an American politician sneezes and it's on prime-time news.

It's interesting how people keep writing that so-called "Lefties" want migrants, when it's patently obvious that the working man doesn't want low-wage competition and business-owning employers do.

Not only would it stop the local problem of people drowning in the channel, word would quickly get back to source and stop the flow into France too. UK and France have very different ideas on how to prevent tragedies in the channel, UK wants to return migrants to France, France wants us to let them use the tunnel.

Did you see how many people march past with a grim look on their face ? Do these people know how to smile ? Can they not see the joy in life ? I remember Kent writing about how his HMR was not penetrating crows wings or bouncing off or something, but I can say that everything I have hit in the right place has died PDQ. That includes foxes.

I don't expect rimfire ammo to be as good as centrefire, but it seems strange that 22LR / 22WMR works extremely reliably but HMR doesn't. I assume the problems are caused by necking down the case. Having said that, I love my HMR, it is flat shooting and effective. People often repeat the common myth that "the little bullet gets blown around a lot" and claim that 22LR or 22WMR are better in the wind - it isn't true - the HMR is better than both in the wind and even holds more energy than the WMR at longer ranges, although in my hands none of them are really capable past 150yds. If you think of it as a flat shooting rimfire you won't be disappointed, if you swallow all the ( mainly American ) hype about it being a wonder-round suitable for hogs and 300yd gophers then you're in for a nasty surprise.

I know a man who takes prescription Morphine, he is also a FAC holder and very regular shooter, as well as a stable and decent man. He decides when to take it, when pain becomes too bad. Does the fact that he takes Morphine mean he is not fit to hold a FAC ? It hasn't turned him into a homicidal maniac - in fact you'd be hard pressed to find a more even-tempered man despite his health problems. How do the members who have stated they would have nothing to do with a drug user feel about this ? I'm curious to know if it's the drugs that they object to, or the fact that they have been obtained illegally.

Agreed. I cook fillet steak too. I light the coals and move them around until they're all white, then push them to one side of my kettle BBQ ( Dancook ). I place the meat on the other side and put the lid on. Fat does not fall onto the coals, so I avoid having burned outer and raw inner.

Some hilarious points here. I especially like the idea of keeping soft drugs illegal so as to keep criminals employed ! Perhaps we should ban bread too, think how many criminals it would take to supply all the cafes with sandwiches, they wouldn't have time to burgle houses. There's a load of posts about Cannabis being a 'gateway' drug, but what is the 'gateway' to Cannabis ? Alcohol or Tobacco ? I'd wager most drug users tried one of those legal drugs first - I doubt many schoolkids had a crafty joint behind the bike sheds before they'd tried a normal cigarette, and I don't know anyone who smoked Cannabis before they'd tried alcohol. Incidentally, 99.1% of KW's statistics are made up - probably ;-)

I've done some testing and research on the strength of glued joints, your stock would do well to have the surface of the wood cleaned with pure acetone to remove any oils that have soaked into it, then glue it with slow epoxy resin ( it can make a strong joint even if there is not tight wood-to-wood contact, unlike some glues ).

I don't shoot so well with my SBS guns, but there is something enjoyable about using them - I guess it feels like being part of a long tradition and they just look "right". It's special.

I had the same op, splinter from the side of a hammer removed from my eye. The worst bit was that I could hear the needle scraping on the splinter so loudly. I'll never forget that noise.

I should add, I think the UK economy is a basket case that no party can fix. Austerity is not an option - it's the future.

What will Cameron get back from his borrowing ? Not much I suspect, but you can be sure he'll be crowing about "paying down debt" again once the bank shares are sold. Politicians ? I dislike them all.
