pegasus bridge
i recently acquired the head of a roe deer, after lots of boiling, scraping and cleaning, and eventually 'capping' it (if this is the right term?) at an angle with a view to mounting it on a shield / plaque to put in my office. i dont want to drill through it to attach it to the shield - how is this usually done? (i thought some sort of glue / fixing compound to attach a nut to the underside of the skull and then drill through the shield) advice would me much appreciated. sako751sg
Depends how its cut fella. If you leave plenty of skull cavity, wedge and glue a wee bit of timber in the cavity and then you just screw from the back of the shield/plaque into the wood.Thats how most of mine are done although some have enough skull for the screw to grip on to without need for wood. pegasus bridge
thanks for the advice gents; i ended up using an epoxy resin to glue a bolt, with large washer (which fitted nicely behind the eye socket arches), got the grinder out to drop the level of the bolt with the wood, job done. i made the wooden shield up myself , so its nothing special - but it looks good on my office wall
activeviii
Did you bleach the skull. looks a little pink still. I just tried the 9% peroxide from the chemist. 20 hours with kitchen towel and put in bag. worked very will. I have 30% coming so 4 hours should be enough for the next one.
