Kes
Evening all. I am quite taken by the promise of the new .17 Hornet centrefire round - This may have been done before, if so apologies as I cant find it. The round is being marketed as a flat trajectory 'varmint' round bullets by Hornady and so far one rifle by Savage. Seeing that I am rather disenchanted with .22 lr rounds, I intend to apply for this .17Hornet for rabbits and fox, so I dont have to carry 2 rifles. Any experience of the calibre would be welcomed together with any thoughts - before I take the plunge. Thanks

njc110381
You'll be lucky to find anyone with experience of the round that's worth knowing. It's only been shot by a choice few in the UK and they've only done targets as far as I know. I used to have a .17 Ackley Hornet which is the wildcat round that the Hornady is based on. That was fantastic for bunnies and foxes as long as they weren't too far out. To be honest I don't think that there's a better centrefire round out there for that use! Have a look on the web for reports on the .17AH - It's not exactly the same as the Hornady round but is close enough to give an accurate view of it's performance. Oh, and I'm getting a .17HH made. As soon as it arrives I'll post up a detailed report.
