Shadowchaser
I enjoyed a clay shoot this morning with friends at my farm using my recently purchased Bowman clay trap. I had put it in storage when I noticed that the throwing arm was still cocked with the spring at full tension. So I brought the battery to it and fired the trap to uncock the arm. Simple you might think. But I didn't have the foresight to look at where the throwing arm would go and it slammed into some equipment and is now somewhat bent. I took it outside to test it and it's just breaking clays as they leave the trap. So I'll have to take it off to try and make it straight, failing that buy a new throwing arm. So remember, think things through.
VicW
Your biggest mistake was moving the trap while it was still cocked. You are very lucky it is not you or someone else who is 'somewhat bent'. Clay traps are very dangerous, they can kill you if the throwing arm hits you on the head. Treat them with respect. Vic. Indeed. The problem was that I normally dis-arm the trap, but on this occasion a couple of mates jumped the gun and had it back in the vehicle before I knew what was happening. Lesson learned at the expense of some metal - and not the cost of someones leg or life!
