cant hit rabbits 123
Afternoon all, I was shooting my side by side today when suddenly the left barrel refused to fire. Upon closer inspection the pin had appeared to snap off. Now, I thought replacing the pin would be no bother at all, but when I took the gun to bits it turns out the pins are not individual parts but are infact part of the entire hammer itself! This is rather problematic as it rules out me doing the work myself. Any idea how much it would cost to have the work done? Many thanks! cant hit rabbits 123
Its a Miroku 500 side by side. However, currently I cannot upload any pictures. Sorry!
RED BEARD
i've just had a pair done on my sbs and it cost £80,but mines got disc set pins so it would probably have been an easier job to fix.
JJsDad
This type of hammer / tumbler can be repaired by a competent gunsmith by filing back the broken face and drilling to accept a striker which then has to be silver soldered or brazed in position. The knack or skill is in brazing the replacement pin in position without effecting the heat treatment of the hammer or new striker. Done properly the repaired hammer should be re-heat treated to the correct hardness. If after repair the material is to soft the new striker will quickly start to bend; to hard and it will be brittle and prone to breaking again after very little use. All this is labour intensive and skilled; so I would suspect most would try to get a replacement hammer from the importers. The spares back up for the better imports like Browning / Miroku / Beretta is usually very good and if they have`nt got it in stock they can order it from Miroku in Japan. You could have a word with the importers at " Miroku BWM Arms, Moorbrook Park Trading Estate, Didcot OX11 7HP Tel; 01235-514550. While they are trade only and wont sell to you direct, they could tell you if they hold this item as a spare part and who in your area has an account with them. Its then a case of approaching your local shop who holds an account with them. Some shops who don`t have the gun-smithing skills will just pass your gun back the the importers who have a number of resident trained gunsmiths. Trust this helps, however;as you will by now have gathered this is not really a DIY type repair
cant hit rabbits 123
I highly doubt I can get a spare from Miroku. The gun is early 60's at best and the only one of its model I've ever personally seen is my own, with very few for sale. Last time it was repaired, the gunsmith said spares simply could not be sourced and he had to weld back together a snapped hammer. From the described work process, production of a new hammer with pin would be more labour intensive than just the repair and most unfortunately I'm not great at silver soldering so I will look into getting it done. Many thanks for your input!
JJsDad
I would still be inclined to give the importers a ring. If they don`t have one, they just may be able to tell you a dealer who may. Miroku 500s never really caught on over here but they are not rare, one of our little syndicate guys has one. I have attached a link below which might be worth a call (UK Gun Repairs), at least they could give you an idea of cost. http://www.####.co.uk/images/header0.jpg Edited July 22, 2012 by JJsDad
HDAV
There are some specialists about ESP in the US who carry parts for older stuff. Try BWM, if no joy try UK gun repairs, or then google for the part number
