beesley121
Hi guy, I decided to strip the varnish off my greylag 8 bore as it was looking a little tired. I have used nitromors to remove varnish. Sanded it so it's nice a smooth and washed it off. No the wood underneath does look like it's a brilliant grade. It's looks more like 2 different pieces of wood have been stuck together to create this stock(please see pics) What do you recommend I do next? Should I stain it? Apply grain sealer then use the rapid oil I have? Any advice much appreciated as this is my first ever go at this. Thanx in advance

Wildfowler325
I did my browning 325 last year. Put two coats of grain sealer the rub it down slightly with ultrafine wire wool between coats. then apply the rapid oil (dont let it go sticky) after about 15 mins rub the stock with the palm of your hand to creat heat and friction to make it penetrate the wood. Reaped this aboot 10-15 times after that i applies a few coats (2-3) of walnut oil Hope this helps

Anth6568
Hello mate Funny that, I've just stripped my 10 bore. Just removed all the dents and now starting to sand down to a smooth finish. Once don't I'm going to oil the stock to get a good looking finish. I'll be using an old recipe that I got out of a book from 1913. Boil Linsead oil for 15 min, add pure turps 1/8. You could add terebine too. Oil,oil and oil the stock every day till your happy with the finish. You could do this forever!! I'll let you know how it goes.
