duke hamish
Our polts arnt right dont know whats wrong with them, could be hexamiter! But they dont seem to be drinking from the bell drinkers in the pen, how do I cure them fast?
AmateX
Take them to a vet.
Paul223
Indeed, take two and may be a dead to a vet (who knows game birds/poultry) asap. Is there any other source of water in the pen? If not is your water clean, sometimes the tank water can get infected with all sorts and the birds won't want to drink it, make sure the tank, pipe work and bells are clean. What do the birds droppings look like? Have you picked some of the birds up, what condition are they in?
webber
Multi vitamins into clean fresh water NOW. Birds to vets as previously mentioned. Pictures of poos please (no pertvert comments please) webber
AmateX
I would take at least 5 live but ill looking poults, stuff can be missed on 2 birds as it is not a big enough sample. Holding off going to a specialist vet is a massive false economy. Birds drink 60% of their water intake within the first few hours of light so ideally birds should be on any medication asap. duke hamish
The water and the bell drinkers are very clean, we have multi vitamins in the water and thier droppings are perfect they dont look sticky either. They just aren't lively and sit hunched up, they waste thier food and dont drink :-S
Paul223
What age are the birds? any smell, sweet or 'sticky' lingering around? how do they feel? describe the droppings, or better still a pic get to a vet tomoz!
duke hamish
Got the birds on an old fashioned powder in the water, ;-) but theyr not drinking a lot from the bell drinkers, they would rather drink out of a dirty puddle. Most of the droppings are fine but some are runny caramel and the birds are verry thin
Paul223
Have you took some to a vet yet what do you mean by old fashioned powder? not banned drugs i hope there really is no need my guess would be hexi or trichi, most likely a secondary infection as well of e.coli or sall, you NEED a vet asap regardless of what any one eles tells you (surprising how some older keeper swear by banned drugs ) the alternative is losing lots of birds

Paul223
indeed a vet who specailises in poulty will send you on the way with what they think you need (down to their experience), they are usually correct, plates will take a couple of days to cultivate and to cross reference the vets initial findings with what actually works as an antibiotic against the particular problem, on the off chance the vet gets it wrong then usually the medication will hold the problem back whilst being administered but once the meds stop the problem will be immediately apparent again, and by then you'll know what you do need. Same can happen with the 'cure all' your using at the mo nowt to say it is going to work for sure and if it does not then what, try to explain to a vet what you have dosed them with? :yp:
Paul223
oh aye, some avi lyte b plus in the water ( your vets may stock it?) the birds will like the taste of it to help get meds in quick, and regularly slowly stir the pen with a well trained dog so nowt is left under cover, once moving the chances are they will take some water Edited July 31, 2012 by Paul223
