Spud dog
Just started with a local farmer to try and help him out and reduce his crow stock. Looked at hides/poles/decoys as I have nothing at the minute. I am just outside Lancaster, but would appreciate a lift as a new starter, I am sure a deal could be struck? Any pointers in the right direction to auctions etc would be much appreciated
swiss.tony
you don't really need anything more than a few flocked crow decoys jack pike 1s are 6quid each make the hide out of natural vegetation sit very still till they come into range crows have wicked eye sight and will spot the slightest movement . when you shoot a few put them on pigeon cradles or jam a stick into there head and use them for real decoys much better than than fake ones after you finish take a few home for freezer then you don't need to mess about next time out . Crows are very tough birds to kill out right so hard hitting shells number 6 32grams or 5s will do the job nicely other than that just watch where they want to be and get there early they get up very early for 1st feed hope that helps ya swiss Edited August 1, 2012 by swiss.tony
hedd-wyn
Like Tony said. Stealth and preperation is more important that gear when it comes to crow bashing. Because it gets lighter much earlier this time of year I tend to set up the hide the day before. It will save you hastle of buildimg a hide Benny Hill style before daybreak and gives you better chance of building a more effective hide. Dont just use a camo net, try using foilage that surrounds where you will build the hide and no ridged edges. Camo yourself up as much as you can. Face and hands, not nice in this weather but needs to be done. I started off with a few FUD (28 quid for six) decoys then just ad dead birds to the pattern always facing the wind. Good luck to you, most farmers hate crows so you should earn some brownie points. HEDD
Spud dog
Thanks for your help. Just seen Camo netting 4m * 1.5m + 4 poles for £55. Is that a bargain?
