wildfowler.250
What hide netting do you guys use for wildfowling? I was going to go for a "harvest stealth net" as I thought the lighter colour might be better for rushes ect. Anyone tried these stealth nets? I'm slightly worried the birds will see through it like an X-ray!
anser2
They work quite well in poor light , but if the sun gets behind you the birds can see straight through them. I have one that I double up on to give then extra thickness. A warning though they can get very messy on a saltmarsh. I use mine when shooting from a boat on an inlans lake. On the foreshore its very rare i use a hide , as I can usualy find plenty of cover in the creeks or behind saltmarsh plants . In this situation I would rate good camo clothing as more important than a hide. Edited August 24, 2012 by anser2
wildfowlingmad
I agree with above post, if your worried about birds seeing through it then simply weave some vegetation into it each time to buff it up and it will blend into surrounds better. As anser says you wont always need a hide anyway.
silver pigeon 3
Very rarely take a hide, if one is needed i can normally find enough driftwood and debris to fashion one. Only exception is when there is a big 10 metre+ tide and then a net hide tight against the sea wall is used, for this i just use a piece of old miltary camo netting. I keep the hide as small as possible and low down, just enough for me and the dog to sit behind.
Wildfowler12
Very, VERY rare I use a net on the marsh. I just find a creek/gutter to get tucked into and pop my eyes over the top from time to time. If I'm on the fret edge I hide behind a mud verge
Yoggy
Ditto........Never used a hide on the marsh, except occasionally when fowling the Washes inland.
wildfowler.250
Thanks for all the replies I tend to always take a hide down onto the mud,(I know that's slightly different to the above question about using it infront of the sea wall). Find it much better for the ducks! As you all said there's usually enough cover but a little extra can't hurt They work quite well in poor light , but if the sun gets behind you the birds can see straight through them. Might actually just stick to regular camo nets then. Thanks!
