I pay £140 per year for virtually 24/7 access but i very much doubt that is likely to be across the board. There are no range fees either. You have to have an RO to run thr range though but me and all my friends are qualified. We only have 1000 yards too so no long range stuff.

Seriously? thats not classed as long range?

Is this to do with Sywell Range? I spoke to them a couple of years ago and they were talking of building a rifle range then; but I didn't think anything ever came of it...

Nope, all to do with me getting out of the IT business, I think it's time for a change of career :good: . Whether or not it happens is a whole different ball game though. I've been looking at a number of potential sites in the Bucks/ Northants/ Wark areas. It's down to whether the figures stack up and the planning issues can be overcome. One thing's for sure, it won't be starting up next week / month / quarter, possibly sometime next year

The best of luck to you if you do decide to go ahead. :good:

I know that feeling all to well! You can add me to the potential customer list though for sure, nothing like this close to us.

Very best of luck to you, this is what is needed for shooting.

You have to be prepared for a long, hard, stressful haul though. Planning authorities can make things very, very difficult if they want to and anything to do with firearms is an easy target for some **** at the Council who wants to get his face known. I know people who have tried to set up ranges before. The problem will be in that even if they cannot find something specific to block you on then there is a catch-all which works very nicely for ranges. That being the 'perception of danger' loophole. No one actually needs to be placed in any danger but if there is the remotest possibilty that it could be viewed that a member of the public might think they may be in danger then you are screwed!

If that is the case then you could be faced with employing very expensive lawyers and even that isn't guaranteed.

I think that the best way is possibly to use the land as much as you can for a couple of years without planning permission (you can shoot on a piece of land so many days a year without needing it) then when you come to make an application you could at least counter any negitivity in this respect by pointing out that you've been doing it for years and no one has reported of feeling endangered. Also, if you could find a dis-used military range that may help your case too as if it has previously been used safely they would have to come up with a reason as to why that wouldn't be the case in the future.

Might be worth calling Sywell and asking them if they have any current/future plans, just a thought. A lot of the earth works they did a few years ago were apparently in preparation.

Edited to add: Good luck and I for one have my fingers crossed for you!
