Any Point calling 101

This will end up like the DSC 1 if we are not careful.

If you are in a sensitive area or very urban then perhaps a courtesy call is in order, however, other than that you are doing nothing illegal, have full permission and using proper equipment and complying with the other laws then it is nothing to do with anyone else.

The more people who log in the more evidence to say we need to log in and before you know it the law will say you have to log in.

Slippery slope. Stop it now.

At least we all know if there are 5 vans, a dog handler and a helicopter available to investigate a logged in pigeon shooter up a dyke back in the middle of nowhere, the Police cuts and crime prevention are clearly very succesful and the budget/manpower exceeds the local crime rate thus allowing further cuts and savings to be made.

The last bit might make them think.

How very right you are Hillmouse.

Devon and Cornwall Police are on record as saying they do not wish to be advised yet people still keep phoning in which has resulted in the following appearing in the last minuets of their Firearms Liaison Committee Meeting. As you say, the next thing we know some bright spark at division will decide to make it compulsory.

Special circumstances aside, quite why some feel the need to advise the police of a lawful activity is beyond me. I do wonder if they get some sort of ego boost by telling the police they have a gun and will be out using it.

The meeting was advised that a number of shooters have

phoned the force to advise them that they would be out

shooting and they were informed that they did not need to.

The advice given to the meeting was to carry on doing so

and that the matter would be raised with the CMCU

Commander.

Phoning 101 normally works. The operator creates a 'log' that the cops can see on computer, so that they know what jobs need resourced etc. Once a job is dealt with, it is 'closed'. For something like a shoot, it would remain an 'open' job. Happens quite a lot where I work, and seems to work fine. BUT... as we all know, you do get officers who aren't clued up on the law on shooting. All down to experience. If I was the beat officer for the areas where this happens, I'd look at going round all the residents and giving them a little education to stop pointless calls.

Agreed entirely!

What the hell is going on this country? Notify the police when you're going out to shoot rabbits!! What n Earth has happened to the British people to turn them into a nation of frightened babies?

When the police notify me that they're going out to shoot Brazilian electricians or drunk men carrying chair legs I'll consult them over my vermin control. Until then I've got a job to do if they haven't. And the neighbours can butt out. If they don't like it they can always move to a safe gated comunity in a well lit town where they can communicate with the world through an intercom.

I'm sick of everyone walking on eggshells over firearms in this country. Whatever happened to old fashioned grown-up common sense.

If the police are concerned about firearms there are a million or two pathologically criminal immigrants roaming the inner cities in gangs shooting each other and anyone else who gets in their way every day of the week with imported black-market handguns.

Perhaps they might take their helicopters, dogs and supermarket janitor's high-visibility safetywear to take a look at that when they've got a moment.

As for chipping guns.... Oh dear God in heaven how did we ever get to this. ???

New Labour's overregulation legacy. And its not just shooting where people walk on eggshells, its pretty much every aspect of British life these days. "Do i need a licence to do this?", "Is this legal?", "Do i need permission to do this?", "What are the regulations on that?". "Am i allowed to carry this?". "Do i need to register this?". Very sad indeed. British people would do well to adopt a more 'French' attitude to excessive rules and regulations.
