Just a quick Q on this subject if I may, hope you don't mind Gerry :)

 

What's the best british wood to use for a walking cane ? I've been suggested Hazel, which with my intended project would be ideal :D But any suggestions for the "best" to last a while, as it's going to get used a lot.

Also, what to look out for, ie; what part of the tree [new/old] etc, and as above, how to stop it bending/curving and would it need treatment of any kind ? :hmm:

Or perhaps, would it be a good idea to buy a cheap old one from a "junk shop" ?
