wildfowl jon
Right o folks, Hopefully this is in the right place (mods please accept my appologies if wrong). Im thinking about loading some 3.5" 12 gauge steel loads for foreshore geese and would like your opinions on best shot size and weight. I'm not too worried about powder at this point in time but feel free to let me know which you find best. My innitial thoughts are 1 1/2 of b's or bb's basically a mammoth clone or if possible faster, but is it worth or even possible to squeeze a few extra grams in there to improve the pattern? Cheers Jon
kent
My own favourite steel shot in the 3 1/2" 12ga is BBB, it did seem to pattern slightly better than BB (strange as that sounds) just a bit more even and it certainly hit hard at rage. I also use BB and no1 but the BBB would be my choice in a 3 1/2" 12ga home load. For flighting of geese specifically i have now gone to the 10ga so this year its No1 as my goose cartridge in the 12 were it will be put to use when i am expecting the birds to be closer in. BB gives great patterns in the ten though, suppose its down to the gun in question. Have you tried Remmington Nitro steel factory? i can recomend it
tigger
I use 1 1/2 of bb's with 40gr of Alliant steel getting just over 1400fps not much walks away from them that's for sure in sensible shooting ranges of course
