stevie1967
Hello, i was wondering if anyone could possibly point me in the right direction, i have been shooting for 20 odd years, just the usual driven game and pigeon decoying, with the odd grouse day thrown in, and i've done a lot of picking up with my dogs, but i want to start wildfowling through a proper organised club or organisation. I have looked at various websites and many of them look good, so could any of you advise me on how to get into it and whats involved, because from what i've seen so far it's a totally different ball game to standing in a line waiting for a flush of pheasants, or walking the riverbank that borders my little rough shoot. I live in Barnsley and don't mind travelling and ideally it would be great if i could tag along with someone and sit quetly just watching, then get advice on my next step, but i don't know if thats possible, but any advice would be great and i look forward to receiving it. Many thanks, Steve.
Reabrook
The universal advice on this sort of query is contact the BASC and get a copy of the Permit Scheme booklet. In there are various clubs that do guest/day tickets. There are a couple in there that will only allow you on their marsh with an experienced member and will provide someone for you on request. Outlay is minimal considering the cost of days pheasant shooting and your right Wildfowling is a completely different ball game. I don't have the booklet to hand and can't remember what the closest one to Barnsley would be. I normally offer the assistance of GWA (link below) but it may just be a little further than you want to travel for a morning flight!! xav
The closest places offering permits would be the Humber clubs, the Solway or some in Mid/North Wales. As Reabrook said, if you get the permit booklet and ring people they will point you in the right direction and most clubs will find someone to take you out. washwildfowler
there are various clubs on the wash that have a permit scheme which is about just over a hours drive from barnsley, have a look on the BASC website for there information and contact details ...try a few day permits first to see if wildfowling is for you it's not for everyone .....
