Guys today my Hi-Tec Magnums have gone out in a charity bag as I think they are ****I really dont know why anyone would pay more than £10 for a pair there week, they let water in, they give little support, and are poorly made !

So I now need a pair of hi-ankle boots that will be comfortable, stong, hard wearing and water proof ! I would go upto £100 on boots but they would have to be real good, really the cheaper the better !

What do you recomend ?

Also what do people think of the Jack Pyke Boots, I quite like the look of there: Hunters and tundras !

Like everything in life, you get what you pay for. The JP boots are cheap because they are`nt made to last for very long.

For something of good quality but for less than £100 I`d be looking at Government Surplus. You can get a pair of worn, but with plenty of life left in them, Meindle boots for £45 or thereabouts.

Otherwise I don`t think you`ll find much of decent quality in your price range.

As above meindle boots are very good, however lowa's boots in my opinion are better. Lowa boots fit and feel like slipper from day one

They are expensive but can be bought on eBay for like £80 if you look round. I've used these boots forever. Ex forces / shooting..100% water proof..

Hope that help, J

If you want a boot for that money for the winter you won't go wrong with a decent black military boot. Magnum Classics are nothing more than high leg trainers.

You could go for the issued cold weather boot, commonly known as 'pro boots' of which there are two styles - old like this http://compare.ebay....sbar&adtype=pla or new like this http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4abc778fda Both are Gore-tex lined and very good but the old style are prefered by most in my job. If you're not running around in them then the new style are comfortable and provide very good support without looking as 'military'. Be wary though that they have been a common cause of achilles tendonitis (as I found out to my detriment). You will get either pair well within your budget and buy these over cheap Webtex copies or Viper or any other cheap branded boot.

Lowa combat boots have a half shank in them meaning they are very stable but can cause some discomfort on the ball of your foot over long distances. However they are very comfortable and relatively hard wearing if you look after them. Personally I find them fantastic for mountain work but they don't grip as well as some other boots due to the lack of flexibility because of the half shank. On your budget they may be second hand.

If you are looking at second hand then instead of Lowas try the Hanwag Special Forces boot. These are my boot of choice for the field - they are more comfortable than Lowas and are more durable.

Altberg are also very good but again would be second hand.
