flyshooter
No worries mate, anytime, you been out much? Lots of birds about at the minute. Been a bit hectic at my end lately, new boiler going in, roof work being done and I' m driving a member of family up to hospital on a regular basis. One of the guns on the drives I beat for, invited me down were he lives, he shoots about 9 farms on a regular basis, doing restoration work, including listed building work, for the farms. I had, amongst others, a day on cut hemp a while back, birds every where, downed over a 100, mostly shot by my host, cracking day . I'm out tomorrow, invited by another shooter who shoots at the little clay club I go to, and help set up. I've been blessed by crossing the path of a lot of realy nice guys and had some realy great days out, it's not about the bag, as much as what shooting is made up of, to me. Will keep you posted, Oh yes, I bought a Browning Maxus camo semi-auto very pleased with it, nearly polished the camo off P.S. fly fishing still stands for you and your mate, only cost you petrol down here, regards, Gel. kystal120
Hi All just thought ide pass this on ...As a return favour for helping out with lamping, The Essex Hunter took me pigeon shooting yesterday to show me the basics. I shoot clays but have been interested in learning more about how to shoot the real Thing !!! I was told to arrived at his house 8.45, where we striaght away after loading up took a short drive to some rape fields, when we arrived we could see A small flock of pigeons feeding on the field, he took me through the whole process from clapping off birds setting out flags and placing rope bangers before I even saw a decoy! Tim went through the whole process of hide building, setting up the rotary, I thought he was taking the Mickey when he started lobbing his decoys around the field and told me to do the same!. wheres all this Horse shoe . n set up patterns !! , back into the hide for a longer pep talk . Tim explained that we would see bird’s flighing into a block of rape around a mile away he explained that he did not want to shoot that Area as he was letting them build up. But all that see our decoy came in for a closer look ,,, and got it !!!! A great day a big learning curve once again from the master and as a bonas i even got to shoot a few birds which peeled off to decoy in, a few more bit the dust , When a High set of 3 flew over , i picked them up , with the master saying ... follow through , follow through .... Now , Bang ... a big puff of feathers and another one from 40 yards hits the deck ,. After packing up we went to look at the block of rape he spoke about with so many birds flying around I was glad to start off with the basics and look forward to the next time. Franchi Harrier
Sounds like a cracking day out IMO. I'm new to the sport too and expect to start on the woodies at some point. I will be shouting out for people to shadow when I get a little practice on clays. ATB Matt
