markyboy
The reed on my double nasty has never been right since I took it out the packet! Can anyone post a pic of how their reed sits on their call as I'd like to start using it! At the minute it either locks up or sounds like the murder of a small animal ! mudpatten
The double nasty has two reeds, you mention only one. Any reason for that?
markyboy
Sorry yes your right, my mistake on post the reeds it should have been! Although one might be sitting as it should but it certainly doesn't sound great
mudpatten
Take a look at You tube for some excellent duck call reassembly vids. In short, the Double Nasty is easy to reassemble. If you get the reeds in the right order, everything square behind the wedge and central on the tone board you can`t go far wrong. If you`ve been blowing it a lot you might want to give all the individual components of the whole disassembled thing a rinse in warm soapy water. Dry thoroughtly before reasembling. Dried spit is very sticky and the call needs to be kept clean. There`s no discrete way of asking this, but can you actually blow a duck call correctly. If you look at some of the Buck Gardner instructional stuff on Youtube and find that you do`nt sound very much like some of the accomplished calling, then I afraid that the most common reason for the call locking up or sounding like a small animal being murdered, is incorrect operation. The Buck Gardner "Call orientation" series is well worth a look.
markyboy
I'd like to think I can call, a mallard call not something I use alot of apart from sonderman and feeding chatter at a flight pond! But just recently I've bought a few calls just because I'd like to master them regardless of weather I need them in the field
mudpatten
Good on you. If you don`t try you`ll never learn. Most people with no previous experience cannot simply pick up a duck call and make it sound like some of the near professional callers you can find on places like You tube. As you`re probably discovering, actually learning how to call can take some time and quite a bit of application. I say this since Buck Gardner calls, like many others, are hand made in the U.S, rather than China and have very stringent quality control, each one being hand tuned and tested by a capable caller before packaging and despatch. I do`nt know, you might have one of the few wrongly assembled and improperly tested calls which must occassionally slip through their QC, but that would be very rare. The noises you describe are typically those of someone new to calling and in need of a bit of guidance and practice. Have a look at some of the Youtube stuff as already suggested and keep on practicing. It`ll come together eventually.
markyboy
There's def something wrong with it because last season I gave it to a seasoned fowler who has the exact same call he went to call with it and it locked up on him, and produced nothing like a raspy call when eventually got some sound on it! I have played about with it and got it sound alot better ! Yes YouTube has some excellent advise I'm currently trying to master the Canada hammer 2! Managing some clucks etc very basic stuff but struggling to put a series of clucks double clucks into practice! Would like to properly know the best call used for greylags and the best method at the minute I call them through my olt L22 or olt
