Grazy
Hi, i'm looking at getting some of my own decoy kit and am happy with the netting and poles but wanted to ask for views on FUDs Vs flocked shells and whether to have just bouncers or whether you really need flappers or a rotary. Money not really an issue but don't want to buy a load of stuff that is not really needed and I like if possible to travel light as well. 86inch
When i started I bought 12 FUDs, a ghost stealth net and 4 poles - these have served me very well. The FUDs have always worked for me. Easy to carry and pack too. Can't comment on bouncers or flappers as i don't have any but i recently bought a magnet with hypa-flaps.. This has worked for me, but not always, often i've taken it in after no action and the birds have decoyed to the FUDs alone in greater numbers. Mostly, i'll prefer to travel light and take the FUDs only because most of my permission is in walking distance from home. I would go for a set of decoys and see how you go with those before committing to buying a magnet. If money is no object go for it, but don't rely on it. I too would be interested to see what other folks think of bouncers and flappers vs a magnet.
Grazy
thanks for response. Yours is the approach that i would like to take as I don't want to get all the gear when there is no need and travelling light is nice.
kdubya
like everything else its depends on what you are shooting over and when, and is it windy/still, rape in winter means a shed load of deeks and a rotary or flapper, Over stubble a few dead birds and a couple of bouncers will bring great results, my approach is I view decoying gear like layers of clothing, I.E if you get to warm you can always take something off, but if you get cold and have no coat you cant put it on, start off with what you can I would say 25 shells or silosocks (I like a mixture of both) and a rotary at least, then build the rest up as you go, KW
