rarms
I have a 6 month old springer. She normally comes to being called and used to be very good to two pips on the whistle. Recently whilst out walking her, if she sees another dog she is off and nothing will stop her until she has jumped all over it. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to stop this? tiercel
This is not such a flippent answer as it may seem. Keep her on a lead. She is still a pup so treat her as one. By leaving her off the lead without control you are teaching her that she does not have to listen to you. Where as if she is on the lead you are in control and she has to listen to you. MC
I agree entirely, keep her on a lead until you have mastered a 100% recall with her. At least that way you can call her back. My springer will still go and see other dogs but he has grown out of the playing stage. Some dogs he will completely ignore. Good luck with her and keep the training fun. If you seem more interesting to her than the other dogs then she will always come back. Titbits in your pocket work wonders. Always reward her when she comes back straight away, get on her case if she doesn't.
