JDog
I was invited to attend a game shoot today with the expectation of pheasants and woodcock in the bag. The day started very cold and misty and temperatures never got above -2 all day. The hoar frost stayed on the trees all day too. I have found in the past that conditions like this produce what I call a 'poor flying day' with no movement of pigeons or corvids and so it proved. Even in an area known for huge numbers of pigeon we hardly say a bird all day. There were some pheasants and woodcock to keep us occupied and on one drive one lucky gun shot a right and left at Jays but the pheasants did not fly very well and of course many of the the woodcock which flushed eluded us. pontbeck
Similar conditions up here where the pheasants flew as high as I`v`e seen and the guns were full of praise for their day. There was not a lot of scent, which made the picking up more difficult
