WelshAndy
As a few of you know I'm currently training my first gundog, a black lab. He's 11 months old and in my opinion he's coming on great with his training. From a young age I taught him his name (obviously) to sit, stay come with my voice but then moved on to the whistle. He knows the stop whistle, turn whistle and the recall whistle which is great until like this morning I forgot his whistle! Arrived at the training field and thought **** what am I going to do?! To my surprise he performed equally well without the whistle! I could throw a dummy 40 yards out sit him down walk back 5 paces, send him back and stop him half way with my voice then send him back for the retrieve. Obviously I won't want to forget my whistle all the time but it does show you the importance of voice commands also Sorry if it sounds obvious but I was we'll chuffed. Actionpigeons
Yes your right, voice commands are very important. I could work my labs if I forgot my whistle just by hand signals alone, but I think I would leave the springer in the car if I didn't have my whistle....lol
