my son steve had booked a try wildfowling morning with his work partner a few weeks ago nick could not make it so i took his place. we met up with bill from kent wildfowling and his dog bullseye at 0430 and followed him to the isle of sheppy

when we got to the car park bill said got yer torches and sticks lads me and steve looked at each other and laughed errr no bill come on then he said follow me and off he set across the marshes there was me and steve stumbling around like laurel and hardy tripping and stumbling splosh knee deep in holes and giggling like a couple of kids

we walked for about an hour and bill said have you crossed any creeks before no we both said well then sit on yer bum and slide down walk accross and dig your toes in on the way up so we did 2 creeks and 4 tons of mud later bill said right steve you sit here i will take your dad 50 mtrs over there and i will be 50 mtrs further on the wigeon will come over very low and fast so as soon as it gets light look out for them

he took me accross another creek i slid down took 1 step forward my book stuck and i fell backwards and splat on my back and i flopped about like a fat catfish ha ha i put my hand down and it sunk up to my elbow oui bill im stuck i said he just jumped back down grabbed my arm and got me out in one pull i havent laughed so much for ages but also crapped myself because if i would have been on my own i would have been in trouble i genuinely could not get up he put me in a spot and went to his one and we all waited

it was still dark and i was crouched down with mud half way up my wellies and i heard quack quack in the distance as i peered into the distance whoosh about head height a line of wigeon flew over my crouched body and like a formation of red arrows the ******* were gone by the time i stood up slopped my foot out of the mud and turned around they were half way to essex ohhhhhh mate was i mad with myself if i would have stood up i could have nutted one of them to death

in the end i had 14 shots and steve had 15 neither of which were on target but we both had the most fantastic day shooting ever

just standing on the marshes with my steve and our guns on a lovely spring day day will stay with me forever

we eventually got back to the car park and met up with some others that know bill and had a chat bill gave me a wigeon that he got one of the others gave me a teal and one of the others gave me a greylag goose

when we got home all the family came down to have a look and my steve had a go at gutting his first duck we all had dinner and told our days story indeed a great day

first of all i would like to thank my steve for taking me sorry to nick because i took his place and a big thank you to bill and kent wildfowling for giving us a great experience

if anyone else has never done wildfowling give it a try its a long hard walk there and back but well worth it we both can not wait to do it again
