A friend of mine has been offered the above rifle in .223 caliber. It has a 1 in 9 twist and is excellent condition. The price is £600.

Does anyone own this model, and, if so, what, if any, are the pro's and con's.

Also, on the CZ527 model, is there a problem with the scope mounts/rings? They are 16mm (I think)

Steve.

Have a .223 cz527 varmint kevlar 1:9 twist for target and hunting. The only fault I have with it is I cant seem to find a 10 shot mag which I could do with for comps. Didnt have much problems with mounts just got some millet steel 1" high 527 fit mounts about £40,also have a spare pair of warne 30mm mounts ready for when I get a new scope. My mate has the standard version 1:12 twist and loves it also same mounts but 30mm,he uses 40g-55g bullets and I use 52-69g bullets.

I own a steyr light weight Luxus very similar to a mountain.. Now mine is an early 80s with a straight steel 3 shot mag and butter knife handle, single set trigger and short action in 243. Great gun only two problems I've had, one very fussy on bullet weight two due to the very light barrel. Rifle and scope come in at 6lb.

Awsome roe rifle as it only shoots a 70/75 gr bullet, could not hit a barn door at 100 yrd with a 100 gr bullet. If it shoot straight and not looking for shot after shot consistently on a range, it's the perfect hill rifle on small deer and game.

Thanks for your input. The rifle,as mentioned, will be in .223 caliber, and will be used for fox. My friend is debating to either get a 2nd hand Steyr, or pay approx £60 more and buy a new CZ 527.

If its a modern steyr then it's built in the Cz factory. That the unfortunatly part is the quality is not there. So I would buy a new Cz.

As for a lot of tithing these days companies are trading on past glories and the quality is lacking due to costs. Steyr had a reputation for a quality built rifle with a slick smooth bolt, in there day was top of the range. Now is a Cz in disguise with a larger price tag.

Pound for pound Cz.
