Recommend a Good Battery?

Hi All,

I am looking for a good battery for a magnet that will last at least 8 hours. I was out yesterday in Perthshire and the small battery I had only lasted 3 hours.

Another question about recharging, I have been told to recharge on a slow speed, is this right and why?

Cheers...

Slow charging that will then turn to trickle charging is the way to go.

You need a fully automatic 12v sealed lead acid battery charger.

As for batteries I have a ready supply of 12V 7 amp hour batteries so take a couple along and change over when they get tired.

A larger capacity battery should give you longer, a 22 amp hour should last you all day.

Good luck

I bought this off the 'bay'

Seems very good, runs mine for hours, though I only use foam decoys on it, not real pigeons.

It's 20 AH rated, Lucas branded, and cost £26.48. I think that slow charging is better because it generates less internal heat, and reduces the chances of warping the plates. Carrying one battery seemed better than 3 smaller ones, though I will make a little carrying cradle for it, as it's quite heavy, and I wouldn't want it to slip through cold wet fingers and smash...

Hope that helps,

Mike.
