lees
Unfortunately I'm too far away to help but I'v just (this morning in fact) had one of these delivered, It read and cleared the code on my car perfectly and only took 2 days to come, still cheaper than getting it done by a dealer too if you can't find anyone near you with one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160856752480?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648

lees
thanks for that lees are they easy to use. also if you fit new parts does the codes need to be cleared before they will work Very easy, you plug it in to the port on the car with the ignition on then scroll to view fault codes (or something like that) then select it it will give you the code. if you need to clear the code you just do the same again but scroll to clear fault codes. Livefast123
I have a code reader if you are ever in the Bristol / Weston Super Mare areas. You should not have to clear the code for the new part to work properly. If you have a smartphone (android/iphone) you can download an application called Torque which uses a bluetooth OBD 2 connector to link to your phone, this then gives you a live data logger and access to all the signals sent by the sensors to the ECU. It's what I use, you can also view and erase fault codes. There are a couple of known issues with that engine, Crank sensors (but cleaning the sensor and connectors usually cure) and temperature senders sending the wrong value to ECU causing not enough fuel to be injected to start Edited April 6, 2013 by Livefast123

Livefast123
BTW is it a cold or hot starting issue. The app is around £2 odd and the bluetooth OBD that connects to the car up to a tenner http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Android-Bluetooth-Car-1-5-ELM327-OBD2-OBDII-Diagnostic-Interface-CAN-BUS-Tool-UK-/180989271729?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2a23cd1eb1 Something like this, works fine on my VW Golf and Ford Fiesta Mk6
dogz25
Cold or warm doesn't matter. Sometimes its as nothing wrong then just won't start. Them starts but need to rev to 2k for about 2mins. Driving me crazy as had a good Picasso until some plank wrote it off. We bought this renault as needed something asap
Livefast123
What year is the Scenic and do you know if it has the 1.6VVT (variable valve timing) engine fitted (Most ones from 03 have) There is a problem with the dephaser pulleys on these that could cause poor starting, rough idling and stalling. Does the car sound rough for 1-2 seconds after start. Basically the pulley controls the valve timing by rerouting pressurised oil into it which then opens the pulley and allows the timimg to be adjusted. The pulleys collapse inside and cannot then lock the camshaft which leads to the above symptoms due to the camshaft / valve timing being wrong. Just something else to consider as you had the camshaft fault code.
dogz25
How would i find out if its got vvt. Its am 04 reg. Yeah it does round rough when it starts. As said it doesn't always play up bloody thing
Livefast123
If it's the newer shape ie the one with the angular rear then it has. If the engine has it's cover left on then it will look like this, if not it will have oil cap in the same place but it will have a black plastic manifold running front to back. When the pulley degrades the oil drains from it hence it sounding like a bag of spanners when you start it up and because the valve / camshaft timing is wrong it will run rough /stall etc. Reving the engine would increase the oil pressure and supply to the pully hence reverting the timing to being correct. I would suggest typing in "Renault 1.6VVT dephaser problems" in google and have a route around to see if it sounds like what is wrong with yours as diagnosing on the internet is almost impossible and it could well be something else, I hope it is as it is £££ to fix. It is a common fault with the 1.6VVT, luckily when I bought my 1.6VVT on a 53 plate it had been done.
