pboro shot
not very often i get to pull the trigger these days useally watching a client take the shot,, ,we got a job to cull a few muntys from a local garden my first thought was how do we shoot muntjac safly within a garden mmmm well the garden was around 5 acres but the muntys have been running riot within various gardens. on the recce of the site we could see there were deer about but no way of telling numbers after a walk around the parimeter of the field we spotted a doe out in the sunshine so we thourght we would strike why the irons hot so we went and collected our rifles as dusk came it was ovious that there are more then the 2 the land owner had discribed i moved into a decent position roughly 30yrds from the muntys we had seen, shortly after a munty came trotting along from one of the small cottage type garden around 90yrds away with a good earth back stop the rarther large doe was dropped on the spot, on moving to the old girl it was apparent how big she was i think one of the biggest ive seen. the evening was closing fast and with not knowing all the land very well we decided to just watch and see wot they get upto and it was at this point we realised we have atleast 10+muntys living in around 5 acres of cottage gardens anyhow heres me grinning like a cheshire cat few more visits to go and i think we will be job done
yds
She is a biggie. Well done. I have a garden similar in size and population. I find my moderated .222mag and 50gr HP's is legal and perfectly safe and quiet for this sort of work. Never had a runner all with boiler house shots. njc110381
Well done getting one on the first visit. Garden work can be a right pain. I took a roe buck earlier in the week from a place I try to manage - she was on the phone this morning saying another one was in! I hauled my backside out of bed and went over - there it was plain as day but no shot presented. I watched him for about ten minutes waiting for him to wander into a safe position but would he play ball? Not likely! In the end he jumped the fence and wandered off. I'll only do local gardens and ask my clients to ring, no matter how early, when they spot one. It saves endless trips trying to "stalk" deer when their territory covers several properties and they're rarely there!
