BSA Meteor Restore

Hi All, After my shooting yesterday I decided to help my friend out by offering to restore his old BSA meteor. I took it to bits this morning and had a look at the design...I also printed the spec sheet from it off the net too. My dads a CNC engineer so it shouldn't be a problem restoring it....was basically just wondering has anyone else here done anything similar like this? If so is there anything I should watch out for?

Any comments/suggestions would be cool,

Thanks,

-Andrew

I had a young chap brought on to me to try and sort a few weeks back.

Cracked stock

rusted barrel

broken spring

Trigger sear spring made out of a hair pin :good:

you get the picture

The poor kid paid £15 for it he was GUTTED when i told him i got one for £8 at an auction in almost MINT nick and gave it away :good:

Unfortunatley i think his was a tad TOO far gone and told him to let it go :good:

They are fairly simple to restore and there ARE still stockists of spares for them.

hi i have one of these guns at home it needs a new piston new spring and new sights any idea where to get bits from as the gun belonged to my grandad and has sentimental value plus was good fun too shoot until the new spring snapped the piston in two.

many thanks sam

What a coincidence, I joined the forum today with the aim of trying to get some information about my Meteor.

I am in a similar situation with an old Meteor to try and bring up to scratch (if it needs it). The gun is a .22 BSA Meteor which I got as a present in my mid teens. This makes it about 35 years old I guess, yes I know I am old :good: . For the last 20 years it has languished unused in a cupboard at my parents until last week.

I have bought a tin of pellets and it seems to work fine. It is accurate and seems to be consistent in striking a metal target, i would say that all is well but the trigger pull seems to be very heavy, much heavier than I remember. I do have a couple of questions though.

1 Is there likely to be any issues on power, will it be within the legal limit?

2 Should I take it to a gunsmith and get it serviced?

3 Any air rifle clubs in the northamptonshire area?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I know the Paul Chambers (the old guy who ran it) Died earlier this week i beleive :stupid:

But the site is still up and running and i guess another family member is running it?

Give them a try

It would be a crying shame to lose a site like Chambers :stupid:
