Dougy
To be honest the choice is entirely up to the individual, obviously the cost will be the deciding factor with regards to your chosen rifle, one thing to think about is how are you going to be using it on foot or from a vehicle, not really a silly question but worth thinking about with regards to the weight. The Sako SS laminate is no light weight at around 8lb then add to that a scope and mod. I have one and after a rebarrel its about 14lb, that was my choice and i live with it. But its not one i now use for walking about, its truck use only. I am luck enough to have another 22.250 that is allot lighter for walking about with, thats an old Tikka M55 re-barreled. The 1-14 twists will shoot 50-55 very well and i find them more than adequate for the job, but chose to have my other in a 1-12 for shooting the 53grn v-max ( of which i am finding it hard to find at the moment) It will shoot the 60grn v-max, plus other's but at the moment only just started to sort out a load for the 60s. fieldwanderer
Good point, it was a bit of a big ask - originally, I come from a target shooting background so the only name I really recognise is sauer But just if anyone can come up with any suggestions; I'd like something relatively high quality, I do prefer heavier rifles and am happy to live with that, I'd say 90% walking or lying in wait with a little from my vehicle too. The main permission's quite exposed and I enjoy taking long (ish) shots so I believe a fairly heavy bullet would be beneficial (correct me if I'm wrong though) - hence the concern about twist rates. Budget's up to about £1500 but I'll consider most things

fieldwanderer
Which model Jamie? Just looked at their website but not really any wiser. Been toying with the idea of getting a second hand sako and rebarreling it with a faster twist and longer barrel but need to do a lot more reading up before I go down that route - looks like that'd get me what I want for the price of a new sako but depends on the paperwork more than anything I.e. getting the RFD who's selling the gun to send it for new barrel etc before it goes on my license. I'd also need to decide on a twist rate based on bullet weights and how they perform - like if a 65gr will be stupidly loopy compared to a 55, I might be better off just getting a new sako or something different altogether. And length of course :s Lots to think about but I've got a few weeks before I can even hope to have my certificate back.

fieldwanderer
I guessed you meant secondhand, but there's quite a big choice on their site so I wouldn't know where to start looking. Yes, please do pm the sako details as the stainless laminate was my original idea, I've listed out what the rifle's for on the other thread. It made sense to ask about building a rifle elsewhere, well, it did at the time
