Follow up to Winchester V Eley subs. The answer?

Being unable to buy Eley subs, which recycle and fire reliably in my Magtech 7022 semi auto, I'd tried on advice from the forum Winchester SX .22 subs and found them to be a nightmare in my rifle, not recycling and jamming, etc. Still with no Eleys available, I bought some RWS subs this week for a trial. Once I'd cleaned the wax off the RWS subs, I loaded a magazine and fired all ten without a miss and got a good group on the target. I then loaded ten Winchesters into the mag, more trouble, not recycling and or ejecting, then a jam, after five. I decided to remove the last five and load a few of my last Eleys, which fired perfectly. The Winchesters seemed tight in the magazine taking them out. The RWS were reloaded and gave no trouble and I went out into the field for some successful bunny bashing.

When I returned home, I measured the base of the cartridges, the RWS measures 0.269", the Eley 0.270" and the Winchester 0.2735", which accounts for the Winchesters feeling tight in the magazine. Could this be my problem?

Have you tried cleaning up the chamber? I didn't see the other thread, but if you have some dirt/grime/corrosion on the chamber walls it could make it sticky enough to stop ejection. Like said above, if it goes in it should come back out, there just happens to be a much more consistent, solid force pushing it in compared to out.

Thanks

Rick

I took the Magtech out again this afternoon, loaded with the RWS subs and can't fault them. I started off with a test firing at a target with no misfires, then walked the perimeter of my 80 acre permission, taking three rabbits and a pigeon out to 50 yards rested on my shooting stick. I have been trialling a red/green dot sight on the Magtech, which seems to work well within the usual range of the .22 subsonic bullet. http://www.urbanfieldsportsman.com/index.php/redgreen-dot-holographic-point-and-shoot-sight-on-magtech-7022-mossberg-702-field-test/

The action of the Magtech was cleaned out about 200 rounds ago, the rifle being an easy strip, as the trigger mechanism comes out in one piece, being located by two pins. The main spring and firing action, just pull out. As I said before, the Eley and RWS fire and recycle perfectly. Maybe I just got a bad couple of boxes of Winchesters?
