al4x
Thats what its all about I wouldn't be without mine stalking and she has found a reasonable number that wouldn't have made it into the chiller on time, nothing beats having one if you shoot one at last light and it just brings a new dimension to stalking. I'm not sure mine is that steady yet but she will sit under a high seat even when fallow get to 15 yards as they did the other night trying to work out what she was, I never had a murmur out of her but I did get a couple of looks to say shoot one please As ever the more they do the better they get I've only had simple tracks so far but she has found one muntjac I thought I had clean missed as the sound and reaction just looked and sounded like there was no connection. I only put her on it to double check as I had no torch and it was nearly dark to look for signs of a strike.
mereside
thats the thing sometimes a reaction doesnt happen always best to follow up anyway. went out last month on roe and the lad we was with shot one on last light i said i would meet at the top of the track he drove back to meet us and he had it in the back of the truck . I let indy off to have a run around before going home as we had sat all night watching a group of fallow so she needed to let off abit of steam. I told her to get on as the truck pulled up and she must have thaught we had a runner because she took off flat out from were the truck had come from all the way back to the strike point, this was over 700mtrs away she went straight to that point and she came back to get me to go look till i showed her the carcass ,she then went off in a huff in the back of the truck. I have always stalked her on a lead till about three weeks ago i started walking off lead and stalking ,we have been into deer since this time but not as close as that it was about 10 mtrs away and i was really nervous she would run in when they run off. atb wayne
al4x
Its amazing the nose on them at times mine is very much a beginner on deer but having been foxing with me for a few years she knows all about finding them just watching them work the wind to start with is brilliant. I've just had mine mated by Benc's gwp on the sd and that was a really good experience going down and seeing one that does 200 plus days stalking a year I was almost upset when I collected her and we went out to try for a buck not to have something to see him in action. Training is part of the game but having a dog that really wants to do it and a natural at it sure gives you a head start.
mereside
yes i really enjoy watching indy whilst stalking ,the way she sucks up all the air and then rolls it around in her mouth and its just getting out as much as possible to bring her on even more, i am now pushing her with scent shoes for longer tracks over varied ground now so looking forward to seeing how she progresses over time, good luck with the pups, atb wayne
