labstaff
I've recently bought a 08 plate Ranger and it has RFW (Release Free Wheels). It comes on automatically when I change to 4wd then I press a switch when I change it back to 2, otherwise it stays on. Just wondered what it does? Thanks
tomp875
As far as I know its locks the front diff. Also alows you to change between 4h 4l and 2h without stopping. Mines an 06 so i presume its the same
labstaff
Cheers Tomp. So am I right in thinking if I switch on the RFW first in 2h, I can then change to 4h on the fly?
tomp875
I dont think you can switch it on before putting it in 4wd at least you can't on mine but if you can switch it on 1st I would imagine you can put it in 4h on the move
bornfree
when you put it in 4wd it automatically locks the front hubs.and when you put in back in 2wd you press the RFW to unlock them.actually on a ranger it does this in the front diff housing.its to save wear on the front diff and propshaft and save fuel Edited May 8, 2013 by bornfree
