dadrew
Does anybody own one of these at all I recently purchaced one (Poles Only). In the picture of the item it shows four pieces per kit, mine contained only three. Since setting it up I have noticed that the decoy that I have on them (Jack Pyke ones) make the pole bend a lot more than it should! The kit contained 2 x long pole and a ground spike the short piece on the left of the picture appears to be missing. The link will take you to a picture of the item Does anyone know what the fourth piece is.
DEADLY PLUMBER
I have two of these. Mine only came with the same bits as yours. They do bend quite a lot. They do work quite well in a wind. I did find a lack of instructions with them on how to set them up. Once I got the rods the right way round. Well I think I have. They worked a lot better. The rod with the bend in it goes at the top and gets the decoy frame screwed to it. I also tippexed he wings and neck up a bit. I think the short bit you think your missing is the sleeve bit that goes between the two rods. I hope that helps. I bought mine for tall crops in the summer. dadrew
From the pics ive seen the rod with the bend goes in the ground spike!
Moors Man
I think you will find the other 2 poles are sleeves to connect the 2 main poles together and the decoy cradle to the pole. When I got mine I thought I had bits missing until I played around with them. Mine works quiet well but is a little on the short side. I have just ordered 2 extra cradles to use to modify poles I have for other floaters that never sat as well as the Jack Pyke. I do think that the way they are pictured is somewhat misleading though. Have to agree here! I think the 4th piece that is shown in the picture is the bit of tube that joins the two main 6mm "poles" together in the middle. The piece with the bend in it goes at the bottom and fits in the ground spike to allow everything to turn in the wind. I use an old (Green coloured) extending/telescopic clothes prop with the top end cap drilled to take the bent piece which raises it up about 5 feet extra. However I have found that the two 6mm poles supplied tend to bend a little too moch for my liking with a half shell decoy with a foam wing and tail kit on a wing spreader so I was wondering if there was any alternative that might be a little less flexible that I could use - Maybe some 6mm fibre glass rod. Without wanting to hijack this thread any suggestions guys?
missmoreandmaster
Hi Guys The short piece on left is the jointing tube (on older modles ) newer kit has joint sections fixed on the fiberglass poles . if your bouncer is not high enough for tall crops I use short lengths of copper 15mm tube with straight couplings to create the length I require , I also got some replacement 8mm fiberglass tent poles off flebay to use 1/.to make up my own floaters or 2/.to make the Jack Pike ones more ridged I also use 10mm soft copper tube to makeup pigeon tree hangers with a small fishing weight clipped on the base end. DEADLY PLUMBER
I assumed the bend in the rod went into the ground spike. But I've found the rod fitted the other way round seems to make the bird work better. Try it. I do find the rod does bend quite a lot so you need to get the ground spike at just the right angle. But once set and in a breeze they work quite well.
