Trouble fitting BSA Meteor Breech Seal

Probably the easiest mechanical job ever, and i cannot do it

 

I am fixing up a BSA Meteor for a friend of my girlfriends, and the old breech seal was shot. I ordered a new one but cannot get it in! Its like a clear rubber V shape, so i assume it fits in with the tip pointing outwards, but it just does not go in, almost as if it is too fat. I am pretty sure i ordered the correct seal but should it be this had to fit?

Have you removed ALL of the old seal?

I seem to remember putting one in the freezer for a few hours once then tapping it home with a Mallet.

The old seal disintigrated and i managed to scrape all of the old remnants out, good tip on the freezer aswell i will give it a go

It looks like a silicone one, as said before make sure all the old seal is out.

You should have the round edge at the top, try a small amount of lube and get the bottom square edge in first and then they should be a push fit.

As Paladin said, mine was a simple push fit once I had dug all the old seal out of the gun barrel (worth going round it with a tooth pick, trust me)!
