SEshooter
I have a rotty, she has come ferreting with us since she was a pup. Really marks the holes well. soon as they hit the net she will shoot over and hold em till someone gets there. Won't kill em or have a chew which is good, trouble is when the other half walks her she spends most the time calling her of earths lol. Been getting her to retrieve dummy's for a while now as I am waiting for my SGC to come through and am gonna be doing some pigeon shooting. Things are going well, she will even launch herself into lakes and retrieve from as far as I can throw. Atb SEshooter

sixhills 69
No is the simple answer Sorry i have to disgree i have had two Rotwielers and both made great hide dogs my last girl was 10 when we had to have her put to sleep but she was brought up to retrieve and worked well from a hide. Any dog can be made to be nasty as any dog can be trained to retrieve. i admit she was no springer and as she got older she slowed down a lot but not once did she rip a pigeon apart she also did the odd duck but she was not a watre dog. So Yes is my simple answer
al4x
I must just be on odd shoots where they don't seem to be a common choice as retriever
Browning 425 clay hunter
I must just be on odd shoots where they don't seem to be a common choice as retriever The op didn't say 'is this dog a common choice' did he, I think he is aware that Rottweiler's aren't the usual choice hence he's asking people's opinions and experiences on alternative breeds to the common ones used. Either way I'm sure the op found the answers he's looking for in your informative and educational replies. To the op I've never seen a Rottweiler used as a gun dog but as a highly intelligent dog breed I'm sure you could train it to retrieve.
