truckboy1
Evening all, bit of a strange question but does anybody know of anywhere where I may be able to find some Canada geese goslings or eggs, we use to have quite a lot down here but the local council have been dipping the eggs and were running short, we are willing to travel, so if you know anybody or local councils that are looking to relocate their goose problems I'd be interested to hear from you Cheers
steve0146
Think you need to check the legal side of this. You will need a license to release non native species and Canada geese are on the list. https://www.gov.uk/nonnative-wildlife Edited May 31, 2013 by steve0146
scolopax
Get some greylag goslings if you can find any. Bit late for eggs now, I think our city council have been destroying upwards of 400 greylag eggs every spring for about twenty years now. Still exactly the same number of geese on the park lakes as before, if not more, just zero goslings every year.
anser2
I am pretty sure you will not be given a licence to release canadas into the wild. DEFRA is doing its best to extirminate them. Canadas are in steep decline in East Anglia and with them being put on the pest list its only a matter of time before there population starts to drop in other parts of the country. For those who are shooting them in the breeding season now make hay while you can as if you continue you will not be shooting many on 20 years time. I would go for greylags next spring , but even though they are a native species I wonder how long it will be before the powers that be will put them on the pest list.
