Introducing a new dog

Just picked up a 8 month old part trained lab little boy on Friday. How do I get him and my 13 year old spaniel bitch to see eye to eye. The spaniel has had the odd snap at him and today I caught him attack her out of the blue. Unfortunately they will have to live in the same room eventually. Will they sort themselves out or do I need some assistance???

I have always backed the older dog in disputes, its a dominace issue, so punish the younger dog is what i have always done despite who started the fight!

Thanks, sounds like I did the right thing then. Sent the youngster packing to his bed. Here are the miscreantspost-3167-1164656443.jpg

He is a nice looking lad --- why do male dogs always have their weeners out for pictures :good: ?

i think to punish the pup is a bit strong :good: but theywill have to sort out the pecking order ie whos the boss and i find making a fuss more than usual of the older dog will smooth the way for the younger dog

I didnt say thrash it to with in an inch of its life :good: !

When you have an older dog like this, it will not give up its status, the other will keep pushing and pushing and eventually the older dog will lose and maybe get hurt.

I mean shut the dog out for an hour so he knows hes done wrong etc!

rubbish they will sort it out fine my collie is 12 and spaniel 4 and have play fights all the time even now

they will be best of pals b4 you no it ill put money on it

dont panic all will be fine

I have trained about 10 dogs all in all, used to show German Sheps for a number of years in agility and breed, had a lot of very good results.

Have had problems similiar to above on a few occasions and got results, good enough for you?

quite why i am justifying myself i dont know.

because your english you have to mate :good::lol::lol:

this is meant in a light hearted wotsit life is good yes

it would be so boring if we all had the same train of thought !!

good luck with you german sheps

cheers kirky :lol::/

Perfectly normal behaviour mate :good: the old one will keep the new boy in place by letting him know what he can and can't do.

This may change at any moment though and the important thing is to let them settle the matter as no amount of help from you will change the social pecking order infact it may make matters worse
