Glenshooter
My lad has seen advertised G26/green lenses, 'shooting only lenses' for his Oakley Radarlock Path glasses which he uses for sporting clays. Here’s a review he’s found- G26 This one is the sleeper. It's a wacky lens, which is why we kept it until last. G26 has probably the most wild appearance of any lens in this test. It's bright green, with some blue and even purple hues skirting the edges of the lens. It's incredibly striking. But Oakley bills this as a "shooting only" lens, and recommends that users refrain from using the lens while driving. Why is that? Well, the lens has a base that appears to be neutral when looking through it, but is technically a contrast lens. It effectively mutes green tones, and accents red ones. That makes it ideal for shooting. The lens is also the brightest one in this test, with a transmission index of 26%. That's more than twice as bright as Ice, and nearly double that of +Red. But G26 is, far and away, our favorite lens in the bunch. For whatever reason, it seems like the lens we grab no matter what the lighting condition. I get the green lens accentuating red/orange clays but does anyone know what it does to black clays? The lenses are not cheap at around £80 so if anyone can advise/recommend, especially if anyone uses this coloured lens, I’d be very grateful. Thanks in advance. hillmouse
Best one out for blaze clays against green or mixed backgrounds. I would not use it for black clays in the same circumstances. Persimmon HD would be my choice for those.
Glenshooter
Thanks Hillmouse; so I guess I need one that suits both black and blaze clays. He tried a brown/pink tint one yesterday from a friendly fellow shooter (maybe G40 iridium) which seemed to work quite well but this green colour malarkey is interesting! hillmouse
The G26 is quite a niche model. I found it was only really good for the blaze against green scenario. Blacks are easily lost with them. It is also discontinued in many Oakley fittings, in the UK at least. It is quite a subjective topic and down to personal choice. I find the persimmon HD to be my favoured all rounder but for blaze skeet, sporting or trap targets against a rising grass or woodland backdrop G26 is the best for me. Amazingly the Top Gun blue lens was brilliant for the same targets against snow.
