First use of the new hide

Yesterday was the first morning I got to sit in my new hide and shoot from it.

Most of the time the bunnies are not out taking the morning air until 05.30, so I was in the hide by 05:00 and all was ready. I had taken the video camera, but the tripod was still at home, so no shooting video this trip.

Previously on this warren I shot 22 bunnies in less than ten minutes, and there are still lots to go at as it is a very big warren.

For the first hour all I had for company were three hares, which were happily coming to within a few metres of my location, and I managed to get plenty of video footage of them. Thankfully there is no requirement to shoot them on this farm.

Once the sun began to shine the bunnies decided to come out.

There was quick burst of activity where I bagged six in about two minutes, then the clouds and wind cut in, and it all went quiet.

Whilst wating for the bunnies I noticed a woodie landing in a plum tree which is 102 yards down the hill from the hide.

The hide is at the mid point of a very steep slope, and the top of the plum tree (you can just see it in the picture) is around twelve metres below the hide.

As there is 500 yards of backstop I lined up the woodie, and down it went.

A few minutes later a crow landed in the same tree, and quickly went the same way.

It was a slow hour after that, but the final bag was thirteen bunnies a woodie and a crow. I didn't pick the birds up as the base of the tree is just a forrest of nettles and I only had C95 trousers on (ok so I'm a wuss).

The hide is in the hedge to the right of the picture.

I was back out again in the afternoon, and added another five and a magpie to the tally for the day, which makes it fifty three bunnies from this warren so far.

It seems that I now have to build another hide as this one can stay where it is until after harvest.

There is a very big rook population on the farm which the farmer wants thinned out, and I can snipe them off the compost heap which sits at the far end of the field near the trees, all of 568 yards away from the hide. :)
