I was meaning that it rises to the sight line, or is fired slightly upwards to meet that line. It was a point to explain why a bullet shoots low at close range and at some point crosses the line and then drops again. It obviously doesn't climb on the thermals like a glider - that's just silly!

 

Edit - It seems that the barrel line is the point of reference for most rather than the sight line. That's fair enough, it's just not how my mind sees it!
