Deako
...or is your internet browser a little odd tonight? On freeserve broadband, and its gone rather slow, email keeps 'hanging' and some web pages won't load, just showing 'error in remarque' or similar? Checked the modem, its ok, run the usual virus checks, nowt, and a system restore on XP. The pages will sometimes load as normal, other times they just 'stick' and the refresh button don't help. Possibly a virus, but Norton can't find it! Any advice?
Crow_Misser
Mines fine but I'm only on dial-up Things you've probably already tried but I'll mention anyway... -Reboot your PC -Reboot modem (If it's external) -Check service status on freeserve (if you can) -Do a speed test on one of the websites to see if it is really slow or just a prob with the PC -Ensure your Virus Protection is up to date Just a few ideas... The problem with dial up is that even a small decrease in speed has a large impact due to it only connecting at slow speeds, but if broadband gets slow it's usually one of the main ADSL pipes that has a problem and this impacts on many users. What speed is you dial-up connecting at? If it's 44k to 56k (if you have a 56k modem) then it's normal connecting speed and may just be a problem with the ISP side, which you have no control over. Deako
Just got this answer from another forum as well: There's a partial outage at the London Internet Exchange (LINX), one of the main hubs of the UK internet infrastructure, along with a failure of one of the main pipes between the UK and the USA. This partially explains why everything's running a bit slow today, and why some Stateside sites haven't been available at all. Seems to be a lot better now than it was earlier, although a couple of routing problems seem to be lingering. Hope thats all it is, everthing else checks out ok!
