Livefast123
Now that the SxS hammer gun is nearing completion my thoughts are turning to firing the thing! I have looked into the proof marks on the barrel and have worked out most things including the fact that it has been proofed to standard Belgian nitro proof. Now to my question, I can't see anything on the barrel / action relating to what pressure it is proofed to, so I don't know whether modern ammunition would be safe to use. I have emailed the Belgian proof house but no reply as yet. Could the PW massiv have a look at the pic below and see if they can see something that I can't Uploaded with ImageShack.us
mudpatten
If you have`nt already done so, you need to get the gun off to a gunsmith and get him to measure the internal bore diameters and the barrel wall thickness just in case someone has lapped it out beyond it`s original proof measurements without having it reproved. Sadly, this can be quite a common occurrence with older guns. You really need to confirm what the barrel dimensions actually are rather than rely on old proof marks. Livefast123
Fair point, I'll have a chat to the RFD that gave it to me and get him to measure it.
Andy H
You appear to have standard proof mark's on the barrel's ,The barrels were made by Van Dalem J.
