Conygree
I'm getting back into shooting after a long gap (P/O licence) applied for SG/FAC, need some help. Only fired a few shotguns types have been on shoots/clays etc but need some technical help to sort out barrel lenght/choke. I will be doing vermin control on a large shooting estate, the keeper wants me to use smaller bore with moderator so I don't disturb the birds, (but he would use an RPG on squidge if he could lay his hands on one). On say .410 to 20 g I noted quite a range of barrel lenght/choke sizes, from say 24 " full choke on pumps /semi autos to 30" 1/4 choke on single shot barrels, with most chokes being fixed its a case of buy a gun then find out if it patterns ok. I would like to get the max range/patterning from a smaller shotgun, I had a S/Stevens 7 shot B/A 40 yrs ago (wish I still had it) but only used 2.5" cartridges are 3" any better? Cranfield
I think you would be wise to consult the Hushpower people, as to what is available. Its probable that they will have some input into what barrel lengths can be moderated by them. A 12 gauge moderated and using subsonic cartridges, makes no more noise than a hand clap, the moderated .410 version is not much quieter. I am not sure what choke options you can get with a moderated shotgun.
