bicykillgaz
Hi I decided I was going to go out this morning on the rabbits with my .22lr but didn't get up till 6.30. I decided to take my hornet instead and try my homeloads on some long range crows/pigons. When I arrived there wasn't a crow in sight which was unusual. I decided to to get settled in the edge of the woods and look for any young rabbits daft enough to venture out onto the stubble. A few minutes later i caught this fella out the corner of my eye at about 130yrds so aimed a little low as I'm 1" high at 100yrds and it dropped on the spot. Hung about for an hour afterwards but didn't see a thing so went home. Not a big bag or overly impressive range but the first of many with my new loads hopefully. Frenchieboy
Nice one Gary. It really is quite satisfying when you manage to develop a good home load for your rifle and get your first kill with it, isn't it. Now to start pushing out the range and find out just how good it is at range, and I am sure it will be impressive!

Me and a couple of mates are having a long range hornet plinking session soon so I'll get to test them at range. I'm really pleased so far though there better than I imagined at 100yrds. I'm looking forward to my first fox with them, not seen one for a while though although to be fair I've not really been looking. How's the triple coming on anymore videos for us? kent
there you go! try using a 130yds zero rather than 1" high at 100yds, this is how I do it anyhow and effectively its point and shoot out to 150-160 (depending on load obviously)- just aim at the rabbits head central and allow for any wind. So much high at x range gets me in a tiz with all guns and I tend to miss over the top or aim low when I should be high etc. doing it this way my brain can cope with the quick s.w.a.g required. I have not chest shot a full grown Rabbit with the hornet (never felt the need), what was the other side and the carcass like?

Cheers Kent, I'll give it a go zeroing at 130 as you suggest it makes sense, the load is 40gr v-max, 10.9gr of h110 I've been told it should be doing between 2700-2800fps which is quick enough for me. That is the exit wound it was turned slightly away from me and was head down feeding and wouldn't lift its head to give me a decent shot, it went in halfway down the rib cage on its left and exited on the rear of the right shoulder, i had to poke some of its inside back in for the photo. There just left for fox food so not too fussed about body shots if i have to take them but do try to head shoot as much as possible just to make it more challenging.
