Both look the business and fairness work well, but well overpriced, built similar and better performing than both of them at a fraction of the cost, with a little diy skills involved, easiest ir lamp build cost around £34 using a 74mm aspheric lens, just completed a 66mm build today to try out tonight using a red led, fully dimmable and 12v powered, see if the spec sheet is true for the led, will be comparing it to a red/orange led in 60mm aspheric( similar spec led to the NM800) to see what happens. So if your handy with a few tools and do a bit of reading up you can save yourself a small fortune and say I built that.....P.S both the coloured small lamps compare well and would say outperform a LF170 with a red filter on.

Thanks boo... So the x searcher would out perform the nm 800? Only had the nm 800 in the field with red beam. And it was brill for spotting foxes but when my mate wanted to take the shot he always wanted the lf 170 for that extra visibility.( with no filter). I have no clue about making one so it looks like I'm gonna be out a bit of dosh!!:(

If you just want a good throwing torch with a white led look up the Crelant 75GS flashlight, you can buy it with a normal reflector,or an option of the 66mm aspheric head with it,uses a Cree xlm u3 led powered by 2 x 18650 batteries, beauty of it it has a built in dimmer as well, will throw 300yds comfortably, probably cost about £80 off the bay, worth a look.
