Ft/lb with different pellets.

After receiving my S410 FAC (.22) back from the gunsmith, because it was very low on ft/lb, I decided to try it myself with three different pellets. The gunsmith said he had a reading of 36 ft/lb with Air Airms Diabolo.

Anyway, I've just tried it with my chronograph, and got some surprising results.

I did a string of three shots with three different makes of pellet, and these were the results.

Accupel (14.3gr) (1) 947 ft per sec (2) 951 ft per sec (3) 955 ft per sec, which gave an average of 951 ft per sec.

Bisley Magnums (21.4gr) (1) 849 (2) 858 (3) 850 which gave an average of 849 ft per sec.

Air Arms Diabolo ( 16gr) (1) 961 (2) 962 (3) 965 which gave an average of 963 ft per sec.

Using the formula ft per sec x ft per sec x pellet weight divided by 450240 the results were:

Accupel 28.12 ft/lb

Bisley Magnums 33.62 ft/lb

Air Arms Diabolo 32.96 ft /lb

So slightly less than what the gunsmith stated, but a hell of a lot better than before he looked at the rifle, as I was getting an average of 19ft/lb. I'm now a happy man!

This is what I have to find out once I've re-zeroed the scope. I was using the Accupels, but have now got a 500 tin of Diabolo's that the gunsmith (an Air Arms service engineer) reckons will be brilliaint in my rifle.

If the Bisley Magnums & Diabolo's don't group very good, then I'll sacrifice a few feet per second and use the Accupels.

Also will get a difference with a Wasted Pellet and a Bullet Designed - Pax Pellet

Which are accepted as being flater shooting and Faster than a Wasted / Shuttlecock Pellet

Well aware that a 16.00 Exterminator - will give good results in FAC Rated Air Guns

And can handle power without damaging pellet in flight

Wouldn't you choose the pellet that groups best and then use that to set your zero?
