I went out on my fist game shoot at the weekend and was shooting pheasant and ducks, the morning started of slow and I missed every pheasant that I had a shot at. Then we moved on to the duck ponds were I really enjoyed myself and dropped a left and a right on the first wave of ducks and then a third shortly later. We returned to pheasant shooting and again I didn't do well, then we went to another duck pond were I dropped a couple more straight away. I dropped five ducks which is not many to you guys but I loved it. Do any of you guys no any places in the midlands were I can go and shoot ducks or geese at all as I think I am hooked on this now

Cheers

We are in the GWA....wildfowling club, but its definitely not pond shooting, you can go for a taster flight if you contact the club, but don't expect easy shooting and large bags, due to the fact, that wildfowling its not based on how many you shoot, but how much the marsh mixes with your blood, it becomes a little addiction.......if you like it of course.

Having started wildfowling this year , I don't know if I would class it as good shooting , enjoyable yes , good exercise yes , lots of fresh air and early morning most certainly .

I go expecting to shoot nothing and so far have not been disappointed , a true wild duck is going to be a far harder target than the semi tame ones you shot around the ponds on your shoot ( the reason you hit those but not the pheasants I expect ) if you struggle with pheasant then a duck with the wind 30 meters or more high is going to difficult !!

To be fair I don't think I was shooting to my normal standard, As when flight line shooting pigeon with the wind behind them I can drop a fair few no problem. I think my nerves got the better of me on the first drive of pheasant as I have never been on a game shoot before it was my first time, and I think when we got to the ponds I had settled down a little and relaxed and began to enjoy it rather the over think it.

I still think I would like to look at wild duck shooting as to be fair it's all about learning and having fun doing it. If everything was easy there would be no point in doing it, I just like being out doors and sitting there waiting for that chance what u may get.

Again when we all started shooting which ever kind of bird, I don't think we dropped everything we shot at, it took time to get better and to learn we're to shot in regards for leads on birds and so on! We all have start some were otherwise there would be no new shooters coming through and I am just starting out shooting game as a step on from pigeon shooting

wildfowling is not for the faint hearted,up at dark o'clock while ev'one else is tucked up in bed...gales,horizontal rain, sleet, snow and lots of getting down n dirty in the gutters and creek bottoms...people say they want to become fowlers but 2 mornings in they quit!!...its the best shooting on earth if you can stick it..a right adrenilin rush for most...give it ago see what you think but it aint know pond flighting  good luck hope it works out :good: ps..got my 1st goose of this season this morn..atb dawntredder :ninja:

Well done on the goose! I think I will have to just give it a go and see how I get in I like a challenge I don't mind the early mornings and mud but may change my mind once I have tried it ha ha. I enjoyed the pond shooting but as fenboy said they are semi tame and a lot easier to shoot and I don't think I would enjoy doing it to much as its bit challenging enough. I like a challenge when shooting as when u finally get something it makes it so much more rewarding atb woodford1

Well you seem to have the right attitude to give fowling a try , its more about the being there than the shooting something.

Perhaps if you put your location on someone might be kind enough to take you out , though I believe you would need to be a BASC member to get a permit.

Cheers fenboy, I live in Leicestershire but am willing to travel for shooting. I am already a member if BASC as I needed to be for pigeon shooting and for the game shoot. I wouldn't even mind just going out with some guys to watch them and not even shoot to be honest just to get a feel of it atb woodford1
