pete1dart
As the title suggests I have just bought some of these 36g steel 3inch. For my Scotland trip. Shot sizes are 1&3. I have never used express steel in 3inch just wondering if they are any good as I haven't had a chance to pattern through my extrema 2. And can't find any reviews on them. Cheers pete
Guest cookoff013
even at 1400fps 1s will do something right.
Guest topshot_2k
I have used them a fair bit over the passed few years, 36g 3's are really good on duck, have used the #1 shot on Canada geese with good results, I use 1/4 choke for both. I usually use Remington High speed steel or Nitro steel, I think its the best steel on the market but its not cheap.
pete1dart
Cheers guys. I always use full choke in my semi. But this is the first time I've used hp steel so I think I might drop it down. I will do some testing to see what works best. I'm not sure who stocks Remington or nitro steel round our way? I've looked on a lot of the gun shops websites but only one in Salisbury had a good selection of non toxic cartridges and answered my enquiry email! Guest topshot_2k
Yes I wouldn't use more than half choke, its not usually needed anyway as steel tends to patterns tighter than lead through the same choke. I usually buy Remington steel from Cash and Carry cartridges (Midlands) or a couple of local ones in Northants/Bucks, If you see any for sale I recommend trying them out. Enjoy your trip

figgy
I've used the 2 3/4 inch ones and they were a good cartridge.Dont think the 3" would be any different. Figgy
Penelope
Are you shooting inland over fields/decoys or over water? If inland over fields you can use lead in Scotland. Apologies if teaching to suck eggs. As the title suggests I have just bought some of these 36g steel 3inch. For my Scotland trip. Shot sizes are 1&3. pete1dart
we have got a morning inland flighting with pigeon all day long, then a duck flight in the evening over water. We are then heading down to the Solway for the rest of the week, shooting on the foreshore. I have plenty of lead for the decoying but i use steel and hevi-shot down here on Canada's on one of my farms. I normally use Gamebore down here, the biggest load being 4's around my local area, so wanted a bit more clout for the foreshore. I have just used up my long standing supply of Hevi-shot so thought I would get a 3inch shell for that. The closest place that does any real wildfowling round my way is Portsmouth so I am limited with what non toxic shells i can get round here as most of it is over inland ponds, so normally only 2,3/4 shells round here.
